Studying and practicing breathing, strength and flexibility since 2019 helped me take charge of my anxiety and fears.
It connected me with my body, took me out of my head, and helped me really accept that one cannot work well without the other. The only way they function and thrive is together. It was hard, and it's still not easy.
And yet: I can almost do the splits, recover from a strained neck in less than a day, avoid conflicts and actively change the course of a situation for the better. I wouldn't have it any other way!
Regular practice gave me courage to stop when I would have run, to walk away when I would have stayed, to be silent when I would have spoken and to speak out when I would have remained silent.
I opened up to not doing it all. I understand more of my limits, boundaries and possibilities.
Within my new found boundaries, truly limitless opportunities emerge .
Freedom is not just a word anymore.
Breathing with intent has given me confidence to do things I would have never dared to do before. No wonder... Breathing consciously and meditation are well known to activate the parasympathetic system wich promotes rest and digest, in opposition to the sympathetic system which prepares the body for fight and flight. This very activation alone, lowers stress levels and opens the door to choosing what to feel, say or do, in different situations and with different people.
Strength and flexibility cannot be trained well together without conscious breathing. Just like social skills and human relationships cannot be built alone, on top of the mountain. You need to face it: society, people, difficulties, mistakes, recovery, learning, bettering slowly but oh, so surely!
Best of all, after doing it for a while, I discovered it is great fun. And also discovered what having fun all the time (not just after work, or at the weekend, not just on holiday) feels like.
It's good. Very good, and most importantly, way better than before.
